Michał Szlaga. Tondo

Kontemplacyjna, romantyczna fascynacja pejzażem – naturą, która uspokaja, koi i karmi, ale też zagraża i poddaje w wątpliwość zastany stan rzeczy.

 Założyłem, że stworzę hodowlę, w której na bazie kilku popularnych artykułów spożywczych pozwolę rozwijać się organizmom. Zapraszam je do siebie, zapewniam im ciepło, wilgotność i pożywienie. Przez prawie miesiąc nie ingeruje w ich życie, pozwalam sobie tylko na ich podglądanie, zakładam wtedy maskę chroniącą mój układ oddechowy. Po dwóch tygodniach usuwam najmniej obiecującą hodowlę. Po 30 dniach przystępuję do zbiorów, dzięki fotografii sprowadzam realne, piękne, jednocześnie paskudne i cuchnące życie do bezpiecznego stanu 2D. Mogę już przystąpić do likwidacji hodowli ...

The Salix Polaris cycle came to being as the effect of a journey I made with Polish scientists to the Polish Polar Station, Hornsund on Spitsbergen (August/September 2012). The photographs taken there resulted from meeting people, whose lives are inseparably connected with science and nature. The title polar willow (Salix Polaris) is a small shrub only a few centimetres high. Its form resembles human nervous or circulatory system. It is strong, wind and frost resistant, and its fresh sprouts develop also under snow. The willow is defined by dendrologists, who can tell its age by the number of growth ...

Pure Formality

The latest works by Anka Sielska "originate" in the medium of photography, their material realization, however, is complemented with specific "framing" – the wooden boxes, where the artist contains the photos and objects. It closes and remains open to other 'images' at the same time. This shape gives the works the character of objects which compose a different set and installation each time. The photographic class of artefacts becomes additionally enhanced by the material equivalents of the images presented – eg. the bedding shown in the photo and the 'actual' white canvas folding into obscure hangings.
